NGC 6331 is a 14.4 mag bright elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Little Bear .
It was discovered on December 20, 1797 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "eF, S, better with 320 power".
