NGC 6312 is a 14.4 mag bright compact galaxy of the Hubble type C in the constellation Hercules in the northern sky . It is an estimated 477 million light years from the Milky Way and about 95,000 light years in diameter.

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6301 and NGC 6311 .

The object was discovered on July 25, 1879 by Édouard Stephan .
