NGC 6312 is a 14.4 mag bright compact galaxy of the Hubble type C in the constellation Hercules in the northern sky . It is an estimated 477 million light years from the Milky Way and about 95,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6301 and NGC 6311 .
The object was discovered on July 25, 1879 by Édouard Stephan .
