NGC 6311 is a 13.6 likes bright elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Hercules at the northern sky . It is an estimated 487 million light years from the Milky Way and about 160,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 6301 and NGC 6312 .
The object was discovered on June 30, 1876 by Édouard Stephan .
