NGC 6286 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Draco the northern sky , the 254 million light-years from an estimated Milky Way is removed. The object forms an interacting pair with NGC 6285 ( Arp 293 ). Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy pair belongs to the class galaxies with wind effects .

The object was discovered on August 13, 1885 by the astronomer Lewis Swift with a 40 cm telescope.
