Émile Boudier

Jean Louis Émile Boudier (born January 6, 1828 in Garnay , † February 4, 1920 in Blois ) was a French mycologist and pharmacist. Boudier was one of the leading French mycologists of his time. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Boud. "

Life

In his interest in natural history, Boudier followed his father, who was also a pharmacist. After graduating in pharmacy in 1852, he settled in the health resort of Enghien-les-Bains as a pharmacist and took over his father's pharmacy, which he ran until 1878. Then he devoted himself entirely to mycology. At first he still collected insects, but was introduced to mycology by Joseph-Henri Léveillé (1796–1870).

He mainly devoted himself to the classification of Discomycetae (a class of ashlar mushrooms that is now obsolete ).

In 1854 he was one of the founders of the Société botanique de France and in 1901 its president. In 1864 he became a correspondent of the Académie de médecine and in 1909 the Académie des sciences .

In 1884 he was with Lucien Quélet (1832-1899), Narcisse Théophile Patouillard (who was also a pharmacist and with whom he worked) and Antoine Mougeot (1815-1889) one of the founders of the Société mycologique de France and 1887-1890 its president. In 1905 he became an honorary member of the British Mycological Society . In 1910 he became a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
