Jean Pascal Raymond Carlenc

Jean Pascal Raymond Carlenc , (also called Carlin). (Born September 19, 1743 in Albi ( Département Tarn ), † March 1, 1828 in Saint-Pons-de-Thomières ( Département Hérault )) was a French Général de division of the Revolutionary Army.

He entered the Régiment de La Rochefoucauld dragons on February 21, 1760 , where he was promoted to captaincy on June 3, 1792 .

In his capacity as commander of the Benfeld depot , he was promoted to Général de brigade on September 20, 1793 by the People's Deputies . On October 2, he was promoted to Général de division and provisionally commissioned with the management of the Armée du Rhin without showing any kind of merit . Without any experience in leading a force of this size, he was defeated by coalition troops in his first and only action, the First Battle of Weissenburg , and had to retreat under the ramparts of Strasbourg .

He was then deposed, arrested on October 23, 1793 and placed under arrest. He was able to escape the guillotine , was rehabilitated, and was reassigned to command Dunkirk . On March 9, 1794 he was deposed again and received no more military duties. He retired to his hometown of Saint-Pons-de-Thomières , where he died on March 1, 1828.
