Jean Poton de Xaintrailles (* probably 1390 or 1400 in Gascony ; † October 7, 1461 in Bordeaux ) was a minor nobleman from Gascony and one of the captains of Joan of Arc in the Hundred Years War .

In 1424 Xaintrailles served the Duke of Burgundy Philip III. as a mercenary and later in the service of the French armed forces of King Charles VII. He became royal stable master , royal bailiff of Berry and seneschal of Limousin . He fought in the Battle of Cravant (1423), the Battle of Verneuil (1424), the Battle of Jargeau (1429), the Battle of Meung-sur-Loire (1429), the Battle of Beaugency (1429), the Battle of Patay (1429) and in the Siege of Orléans . Xaintrailles also started the siege of Compiègne (June 18, 1429). He was also one of the leaders of the Écorcheurs , a group of demobilized mercenaries who ravaged France at the time of Charles VII.

In the late phase of the Hundred Years War he was active and with mediocre success involved in the reconquest of Normandy (1435) and the conquest of the Guyenne . He often served together with Étienne de Vignolles , better known as La Hire , with whom he also went to the victorious Battle of Gerberoy (1435). When the new standing armies were set up in 1445 , Xaintrailles was appointed commander of one of the twelve companies in the new army. In 1454 he was appointed Marshal of France .

Xaintrailles died on October 7, 1461 in Bordeaux without an heir and donated his fortune to the Church.
