Jean VII d'Harcourt

Jean VII. D'Harcourt († December 18, 1452 in Châtellerault ) was Count of Harcourt , Aumale , Vice-Count of Châtellerault , Seigneur de Mézières , d ' Elbeuf , de Lillebonne , de La Saussaye etc. He was the son of Jean VI. d'Harcourt , Count of Harcourt, and Catherine de Bourbon, the sister of King Charles V .

Life

As a military he participated in the siege of Taillebourg , where he by his uncle Louis II. De Bourbon to beat Knight was at the siege of Tunis and the siege of Harfleur . He fell into English captivity at the Battle of Azincourt in 1415.

In 1418 his Harcourt Castle was taken by the English. His titles were given to the Earl of Warwick and the Duke of Clarence . King Charles VI. appointed him as support to the general captain of Normandy and gave him 1000 livres .

Jean VII. D'Harcourt died on December 18, 1452 and was buried in the convent of the Cordeliers in Châtellerault. With him the older line of the House of Harcourt died out .

He had married Marie d'Alençon on March 17, 1389 († 1418), daughter of Pierre II. D'Alençon and Marie Chamaillard, Vicomtesse de Beaumont-au-Maine . His children were Jean VIII. D'Harcourt (1396–1424), Count of Aumale, lieutenant and captain general of Normandy, who fell at the Battle of Verneuil , and Marie d'Harcourt (1398–1476), wife of Antoine de Vaudémont , Count of Vaudémont and Guise , the ancestors of the Harcourt line of the House of Lorraine.
