Antiquity
For a time Lillebonne was the capital of the Gallic tribe of the Caletes . In Gallo-Roman times the place was called "Juliobona" and is mentioned under this name by Claudius Ptolemy (II, 8, 11). Juliobona had an amphitheater , a mithraium and thermal baths . The stones from these structures were used in the following centuries for city walls and the construction of Jumièges Abbey .
