Gonfreville-l'Orcher is a French commune in the department of Seine-Maritime in the region Normandy ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Le Havre and the canton of Le Havre-3 .
geography
The municipality is located in the metropolitan area east of Le Havre . In the south, the municipality extends across the port facilities of Le Havre to the mouth of the Seine . Neighboring communities are:
- Saint-Martin-du-Manoir in the north,
- Gainneville in the northeast,
- Rogerville in the east,
- Le Havre to the west and
- Harfleur and Montivilliers to the northwest.
Transport links
In terms of transport connections, the municipality uses the infrastructure of the greater Le Havre area. In addition, the Canal du Havre à Tancarville canal crosses the municipality in an east-west direction.
history
Gonfreville-l'Orcher was created by merging the former parishes of Gonfreville and Gournay. The name extension "l'Orcher" comes from old fiefdoms and the associated family "d'Aurichier", who still own the castle today.

One of the largest oil refineries in the country is located in the village . 1,100 employees of Total's Normandy platform work on 360 hectares. 350,000 barrels are processed every day .
