Épouville is a French commune with 2,686 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Seine-Maritime in the region Normandy . It belongs to the communauté d'agglomération Havraise .

geography

Épouville is two kilometers northeast of Montivilliers and 15 kilometers northeast of Le Havre . The river Lézarde flows through the municipality. The hamlet of La Payennière is part of the municipality.

history

Traces of settlement from the Moustérien and the Neolithic Age were found in the old brickworks quarry .

Épouville was referred to in a Latin document from William the Conqueror in 1068 as Espovilla , Epouvilla or Esposvilla .

Twin town

Épouville has had a close partnership with the German city of Dinklage in Lower Saxony since 1986 .

Attractions

The Romanesque church of Saint-Denis was built in the 11th century. The bell tower dates from the 12th century, the choir from the 13th century. There is a moth in La Payennière .

Economy and Infrastructure

The main occupations of the Épouvillais are agriculture and cattle breeding.

The secondary school, Collège Georges Brassens , was named after the chansonnier Georges Brassens (1921–1981).
