Peter II (Alençon)

Peter II of Alençon , called the noble , (* 1340 ; † September 20, 1404 in Argentan ) was Count of Alençon and Le Perche .

Life

Peter was the third son of Charles II , Count of Alençon and Le Perche and Maria of Castile, daughter of Ferdinand II. De la Cerda . He followed in 1361 as Count of Alençon after his two older brothers became clergy. From his brother Robert he inherited the counties of Le Perche and Porhoët in 1377 . From 1360 he was held hostage for his cousin King John II of France in England. After his return to France he fought with his brother Robert against the English in Aquitaine and conquered Limoges . He later fought under du Guesclin in Brittany, was wounded at Hennebont and took part in the 1388 campaign against William I of Geldern .

When his brother Robert von Le Perche died childless in 1377, he inherited the county.

In 1371 he married Marie Chamaillard (* around 1345, † 1425), Viscountess of Beaumont-au-Maine , Fresnay and Sainte-Suzanne , daughter of Guillaume Chamaillard , sire d'Anthenaise and Marie de Beaumont-Brienne. The couple had 8 children
