Jean Victor Tharreau , less often Jean Victor Thareau (born January 15, 1767 in Bégrolles-en-Mauges , † September 26, 1812 in Moshaisk , Russia ) was a French Général de division .

Life

Tharreau comes from a family that split because of their attitude towards the revolution . Tharreau's parents - who were enthusiastic about the revolutionary ideas - left the family seat in Cholet and settled in Châtillon-sur-Sèvre . His parents were Jean-Mathieu Tharreau, sieur e la Moncellière and Anne-Jeanne Richard.

Tharreau volunteered for the army and made a career there very quickly. In 1794, during the end times mood of the reign of terror , Tharreau was stationed with his army in the Ardennes with the rank of general. On August 4, 1797, he married Anne-Marguerite Martin in Colmar and had a son, Pierre-André.

He fought u. a. near Ostrach (March 21, 1799), near Stockach (March 25, 1799) and near Winterthur (May 27, 1799).

In 1801 Napoleon appointed him military governor of Strasbourg .

Under Marshal Jean Lannes own command when led Aspern (21-22. May 1809) and at Wagram (. July 5-6 1809). After the Treaty of Schönbrunn (October 14, 1809) he was able to return to France. In Orvault he bought a stately home for his family and himself, where he and his wife lived only for a very short time until her death in 1850.

Tharreau fought in the Battle of Borodino (September 7, 1812), where he was badly wounded. On September 26 of the same year he died of his injuries in the Mozhaisk hospital .
