Jean de Compey

Jean de Compey (* in the 14th or 15th century; † June 28, 1492 in Moûtiers ) was bishop of Turin from 1469 to 1482 , bishop of Geneva from 1482 to 1484 and then Archbishop of Tarentaise until his death .

Jean de Compey, first mentioned in 1462, was the son of Jean, Herr von Draillant and Antoinette de La Palud. He was abbot of Aulps , Chézery , Filly, Sixt and S. Stefano in Vercelli . From 1462 to 1464 he was Chancellor and advisor to Duke Ludwig of Savoy . Jean became Bishop of Turin in 1469 and was transferred to Geneva in 1482. There he met the resistance of the Savoy duke Charles I , who wanted to get his uncle Franz through as bishop of Geneva. Jean was forced to flee Geneva in 1483 and accepted the Archdiocese of Tarentaise in 1484 , whereupon Francis of Savoy followed him in Geneva.
