Jeanne Aubert (born February 21, 1906 in Paris , † March 6, 1988 there ) was a French singer and actress .

Life

Jeanne Aubert was born Jeanne Perrinot in Paris , France, the daughter of an aristocrat and a former flower seller. Her mother opened her way to show business. Marguerite was already on the stage of the Théâtre du Châtelet at the age of five . As a teenager she took singing and music lessons and at the age of 18 she appeared in an artful Mistinguett production at the Casino de Paris.

In 1928 she helped found the first women's organization, the Jeunesse Ouvrière Chretienne (JOC), a Catholic apostolic group for young people. Jeanne Aubert was the first female president of the JOCF in France.

Under the stage name Jane Aubert, she made her feature film debut in the silent film La Possession in 1929 . The multimillionaire Nelson Morris from Chicago , Illinois , whose family had become wealthy from meat processing, saw Aubert in the film and met her a short time later. The two began a relationship and eventually moved from France to the United States , where they also got married. However, the marriage did not last long. In May 1937, Nelson Morris survived the Hindenburg disaster .

The story is related to the docu-drama The Secret of the Hindenburg , where Nelson Morris tells his story and comes to the conclusion “never marry an actress”.

After their divorce, Jeanne Aubert began to work in musical comedies on Broadway and had an appearance in the 1934 film The Gem Of The Ocean (German: The jewel of the ocean ). In 1935 she returned to her native France and starred in several films over the next two years. In 1937 she began to play again on the Parisian stages, among others with the celebrated singer Fréhel . She also was part of shows in London and other cities throughout Europe, including the production of Anything Goes by Cole Porter , in which she played the lead role of Reno Sweeney. Although Aubert never made the headlines, her career continued successfully for the next 30 years with numerous recordings, films, and stage productions, and eventually roles on television.

Jeanne Aubert died in 1988 and was buried in the Cimitière de Pantin in the Paris suburb of Pantin .
