Jeffrey Ryan Locke (born September 27, 1989 in Frankfurt am Main , Germany ) is an American American football player. He played for the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions in the National Football League (NFL) as a punter .

Early years

Locke was born in Germany when his father was stationed there as a soldier. He attended Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale , Arizona . In his senior year at school, he set school records for most field goals (11), longest punt (71 yards), and longest field goal in the state (63 yards). He later attended the University of California, Los Angeles and completed 53 games there.

NFL

In the 2013 NFL Draft , he was selected in the 5th round as the 155th player of the Minnesota Vikings . Locke was awarded a four-year contract for $ 2.3 million. While Locke still had to compete for his regular place with their long-time punter Chris Kluwe in his first year at the Vikings , Locke was able to start every game from his second season in 2013 until today. On March 10, 2017, the Indianapolis Colts hired him as an unrestricted free agent. They released him on August 28, 2017. The Detroit Lions signed him on September 12, 2017 . On March 12, 2018, he signed a contract with the San Francisco 49ers, but this was terminated before the next season on August 31, 2018.

AAF

On January 20, 2019, Locke signed a contract with the newly formed Alliance of American Football (AAF) with the Arizona Hotshots . After the eighth game day of the first season, the game was stopped due to financial issues.
