Jehan Bellegambe

Jehan Bellegambe (* approx. 1470 in Douai , French Flanders , today France, region Nord-Pas-de-Calais ; † approx. 1535 there; also Jean Bellegambe ) was a French Renaissance painter . Due to the history of Douais, he is occasionally listed as a Dutchman . He was also called the master of colors .

Nothing is known about his training. Bellegambe painted numerous magnificent, religious representations, three-part and multi-part altarpieces, the most important of which have been preserved in his hometown, in Arras , Aix , in the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille and Saint Petersburg .

The Altar Triptych Le Cellier is exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York , named after the place where it was found, a former granary of Clairvaux Monastery .

The Art Institute of Chicago exhibits a view of Saint Catherine of Alexandria from him.
