Jelko Kacin

Jelko Kacin (born November 26, 1955 in Celje ) is a Slovenian politician of the LDS .

After earning a diploma in military science, Kacin worked in Kranj as a trainee lawyer in the local government, later as a consultant for defense issues and military training. In 1988 he became Chief of Staff of the municipal civil protection, in 1993 he joined Adria Karavan in Novo mesto in the marketing department.

Kacin was 2003 Chairman of the Regional Council for the LDS Oberkrain (Gorenjska) and the local branch Kranj. Before that he was a member of the party council. He was a member of the Kranj Municipal Council from 1998 to 2006 and of the State Assembly from 1996 to 2004 . He was also a member of the Slovenian delegation to the Council of Europe and the Inter-Parliamentary Union . In 1990 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense and in 1991 Minister of Information. After the last ministry fell away in early 1993, he was appointed Minister of Defense. In 2003 he became an observer in the European Parliament and has been a full member there since 2004. There he was a member of the executive committee of the ALDE parliamentary group .

Kacin is the holder of the Slovenian Order of Freedom.

Kacin is vice-chairman of the delegation for relations with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo . He is a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Delegation for relations with the Korean Peninsula. Deputy in the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs , in the Committee on Transport and Tourism in the Delegation in the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, in the Delegation for relations with Iraq and in the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.
