Yemelyan Yaroslavsky , in literature written as Yemelian Jaroslavskij ( Russian Емельян Михайлович Ярославский * February 19 . Jul / 3. March  1878 greg. In Chita , † 4. December 1943 in Moscow ) was a Soviet politician and journalist. He was the leader of the Society of the Wicked (Russian Общество безбожников ), also known as the Union of Militant Atheists.

Yaroslavsky, of Jewish descent, was born under the name Minei Israilewitsch Gubelman ( Russian Миней Израилевич Губельман) in Chita. In 1898 he joined the Social Democratic Party of Russia . In 1903 he led a textile workers' strike in Yaroslavl . His name Jaroslawski is derived from this. He was a participant in the Russian Revolution from 1905 to 1907 . In 1907 he was arrested and sentenced to forced labor and exile. From that time on, Jaroslawski lived in exile as a professional revolutionary until 1917.

He is considered one of the main organizers of the October Revolution . After Lenin's death, he held a wide range of functions under Stalin . He was chairman of the Society of Former Political Prisoners , chairman of the Society of Old Bolsheviks , a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU . In the 1930s, Jaroslawski, who also served as chairman of the Association of the Fighting Godless , led the anti-religious campaign in the Soviet Union, which was broken off with the beginning of the war against Germany . As a journalist, he wrote regularly for the party newspaper Pravda .

Yemeljan Jaroslawski was married to Klawdija Kirsanowa . After Yaroslavsky's death, his urn was buried on the Kremlin wall in Moscow.
