Jenny Weggen

Jenny Weggen (born April 6, 1982 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( GREEN Hamburg ).

Life

Jenny Weggen passed her Abitur in 2001 at the Heilwig-Gymnasium in Hamburg and began studying sociology, political science , history and Spanish at the University of Hamburg , from which she graduated in 2009 as a sociologist. During her studies, she spent a semester abroad in Santiago de Chile . She did her doctorate in 2016 in the field of Emotional and Organizational Sociology with a focus on non-profit organizations.

Jenny Weggen was already politically active at the University of Hamburg and was chairwoman of the General Student Committee (AStA) in 2003/2004. From September 2006 to May 2008 she was a member of the district assembly in Eimsbüttel for the GAL , where she also took on the office of deputy chairman.

She had been a member of the Hamburg Parliament since May 7, 2008. She ran for the constituency of Rotherbaum-Harvestehude-Eimsbüttel-Ost for the Hamburg state election in 2008 , but was unable to move in directly. In May, however, she was replaced by Till Steffen , who at that time was the Justice Senator and President of the Justice Authority of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Within parliament, she sat for her group in the health committee and science committee and was chair of the environment committee. In addition, she was the specialist spokesperson for the areas of environment and consumer protection in the citizenship of the GAL. After the coalition failed, she had to make way for Till Steffen again and did not run again in the following election.

On June 24, 2017, Weggen ran as a member of the State Executive Committee and was elected with 72.48 percent of the votes cast.
