Jens Hergt (born March 19, 1974 in Berlin ) is a former German ice hockey player and coach who played in the position of striker . Between 1994 and 2016 Hergt was active for the various Neuwied ice hockey clubs, and since 2016 he has been the trainer of the EHC die Bären 2016.

Career

In the 1994/95 season , the then 20-year-old Hergt came from the Eisbären Berlin junior team to EHC Neuwied in the second-class first division north. Since then, the native of Berlin played continuously for the Neuwied Bears until the end of his active career, where he was team captain between 2004 and 2009 . Hergt is the only player who was active for all Neuwied ice hockey clubs.

Hergt celebrated the greatest successes of his career with the "old" EHC Neuwied in 1997 and 1998 , when he and the team won the 1997 DEB League Cup and the first division championships in both years. When the EHC filed for bankruptcy in January 2000 , Hergt was one of the few players who did not leave the bears and continued to play in the squad of the immediately founded successor club SC Mittelrhein. With SC Mittelrhein he immediately made it up from the regional league to the upper league , where the team should stay for the next five seasons. After SC Mittelrhein also filed for bankruptcy after the 2005/06 season , Hergt decided to play for the new Neuwied team. The “new” EHC Neuwied - led by team captain Hergt - achieved two successes, so that the bears have been competing in the Regionalliga NRW since the 2009/10 season . After the 2008/09 season, Hergt ended his active career.

As part of a farewell game for Hergt, it was announced on April 17, 2010 that he will take over as coach of the regional league team EHC Neuwied from the 2010/11 season . Before that, Hergt had already trained the junior teams in Neuwied while he was still active. For the bears, he was on the ice for four games during the playdowns in March 2011 . In these games he was represented by Markus Fischer behind the gang.

From the 2011/2012 season Hergt went back to the ice for EHC Neuwied under coach Bernd Arnold.

Since 2016, Hergt has been the trainer of the EHC Die Bären 2016 again.
