Jens Josef (born August 5, 1967 in Solingen- Ohligs) is a German composer, flautist and university professor.

Life

Jens Josef received his first flute lessons from Rita Eggenweiler and Klaus Grünow, the solo flutist at the Staatstheater Kassel , and took composition lessons from Jörn Tegtmeyer, KMD in Hann. Münden . From 1989 to 1997 Josef studied at the Frankfurt University of Music , flute with Peter Brock and Paul Dahme, and composition with Gerhard Müller-Hornbach . He received the exam in 1995 and the concert exam in 1997. He also studied flute with András Adorján and composition with Rainer Kunad .

In 1992/93 he was a member of the North German Philharmonic in Rostock , and in 1994/95 he was a flutist in the Saitensprünge salon orchestra . Since then he has been working as a freelance flautist, composer, teacher and conductor. In 1997 he founded the Kontraste group together with Christian Ridil. In 1998 he was solo flutist of the Young Philharmonic Hesse-Thuringia . He worked with the Mutare Ensemble in Frankfurt . Josef taught at the Academy for Music in Darmstadt from 2000 to 2006 , and from 2003 to 2006 at the Frankfurt University of Music. He has been teaching at the Kassel Music Academy since 2006.

His oratorio a long time ago. Stations in a city , for speakers, two sopranos, baritone and ensemble, was established in 2000 in the Blasiuskirche, Hann. Münden, premiered. Commissioned by the La Picassola ensemble , in 2001 he composed music for flute (s), viola and double bass based on the picture of Pablo Picasso "Portrait of his little daughter" in four movements. The ensemble played the world premiere in the foyer of the Wiesbaden State Theater . Also in 2001, Josef Schubert's Winterreise arranged for tenor and string quartet. It was recorded with Christian Elsner and the Henschel Quartet in 2002, and performed in 2004 by Peter Schreier and the Dresden String Quartet.

In 2009 he was the flutist in a trio concert in Gasteig , with Rudi Spring (piano) and Graham Waterhouse (cello). They played Martinů's Trio, the first performance of the flute version of Gestural Variations by Waterhouse and a Christmas carol arrangement by all three composers. Josef set the bells never to ring .

Chamber music by Josef has been published on a portrait CD Chamber music , five chansons based on texts by François Villon (for soprano, flute, clarinet and percussion), June 26, 1626 (concertante scene No. 2 for baritone, flute, violin, bassoon and piano ), Bizarrerien (three songs and two interludes for soprano, alto flute and guitar), and the music for flute (s), viola and double bass , played by La Picassola.
