Jens Kunath (born February 15, 1967 in Lauchhammer ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper and coach .
Career as a player
The trained electrical mechanic Jens Kunath moved up to the GDR league season 1985/86 at the age of 18 in the squad of FC Hansa Rostock and made his debut in the league on November 2, 1985. After the descent of Rostock in the same season in the GDR league , Kunath stayed with FC Hansa, had seven appearances in the rise of Rostock and developed into the goalkeeper of FC Hansa in the league in the following season 1987/88 . In the following season 1988/89 Kunath finished fourth in the league with Rostock and thus qualified for the UEFA Cup 1989/90 , in which Kunath completed two games against Baník Ostrava , but FC Hansa was eliminated from the competition.
In the last season of the GDR Oberliga 1990/91 , in which Rostock won the championship and also the FDGB Cup for the first time in the club's history, Kunath got competition in the Hansa-Tor from the newcomer Daniel Hoffmann , so that both of them in 13 games each the championship and three games in the cup - but Hoffmann denied the cup final. In the following, Kunath finally lost his regular place at Hansa, although he still played the only DFB Supercup game in Rostock in the first all-German Bundesliga season , but only nine games in the league. After Rostock's relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga, Kunath played in 20 more games within three seasons in the second-highest German division.
After Rostock was promoted to the Bundesliga in the 1994/95 season , he came in the 1995/96 season as a substitute goalkeeper behind Perry Bräutigam to no further use for Hansa, whereupon he left the club and became the first German professional footballer to join a Chinese club, Vanguard Huandao , changed. Kunath played there until 1998 and then returned to Germany to the regional league club Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl , with whom he was relegated to the league. After two more one-year positions at FC Mallorca Topline and FC Anker Wismar , Kunath ended his active career in 2001.
Career as a coach
After completing his playing career, Kunath took over the coaching position of LSG Elmenhorst, who played in the district class , in 2001 and achieved promotion to the district league with the club . From 2003 to 2006 he worked for the national division SV Warnemünde football .
