Jens Melzig (born September 28, 1965 in Cottbus ) is a former German soccer player .

Athletic career

Jens Melzig began his professional career in 1983 at Energie Cottbus . In the last season of the GDR Oberliga , Melzig missed qualifying for the 2nd Bundesliga with the Lausitzers , which is why he moved to Bundesliga club Dynamo Dresden in 1991 .

Melzig was able to establish himself as a regular player in Dresden straight away, and Bayer 04 Leverkusen signed the man's deck back in 1993 . Best placement with Bayer was third place in the 1993/94 season. In 1995 Melzig moved to the second division for Chemnitzer FC , with which he, however, had to relegate to the regional league.

In 1997 Melzig moved back to his old club Energie Cottbus, which was playing in the regional league at the time. With Cottbus, he surprisingly reached the final in the DFB-Pokal (0-2 against VfB Stuttgart ) and promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. From 1998 to 2000 Melzig also played second class at Tennis Borussia Berlin .

Melzig is currently active as a national football coach at FLB and plays for SG Sielow (old league over 35).
