Political objectives

Jens Meyer takes over the office of Lord Mayor from Kurt Seggewiß

Jens Meyer describes himself as a “local politician through and through, also shaped by social democracy” in his application speech as candidate for mayor of the city of Weiden .

Meyer still sees a huge need for investment in education, construction, business, sport and culture. At the same time, he campaigns for the existence of all Weiden primary schools. A quick decision about renovation or new construction or partial construction of the secondary schools as well as the school renovations that have already been announced are important to him. He promises “full steam” with the new building areas on Turnerbund and SV-Detag sites in the Stockerhut district as well as with the revision of the outdated development plans. Weiden has to get involved above all in social housing. The city must help the swimming club with the pool renovation. In his first term of office he wants to finish the new triple gym in Weiden-Ost. Meyer expects strong impulses from the industrial park Weiden-West IV, from the Stadtgalerie NOC and from the Wittgarten cut. Because of the civic engagement, Weiden has great potential to become the cultural capital of the Upper Palatinate.
