Jens Niemeyer

Jens C. Niemeyer (born August 22, 1968 in Furth , now Oberhaching ) is a German physicist and professor at the University of Göttingen . He conducts research in the field of theoretical astrophysics and cosmology .

biography

Jens Niemeyer attended the Ottobrunn grammar school up to his Abitur in 1987 and studied physics at the Technical University of Munich from 1988 to 1994 . After a research stay at the University of California , Santa Cruz, he was awarded a Dr. rer. nat. PhD . Interrupted by a stay as an Enrico-Fermi Fellow (1997–1999) and Otto Hahn Fellow (1999–2000) at the University of Chicago , he was a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Garching near Munich until 2002 and completed his habilitation 2001 in theoretical physics at the Technical University of Munich on the topic "Fluid Dynamics of Thermonuclear White Dwarf Explosions and Primordial Black Hole Collapse". From 2002 to 2009 he was professor (C3) for astronomy at the Bavarian Julius Maximilians University in Würzburg. In 2009 he was appointed to a professorship (W3) for astrophysical cosmology at the University of Göttingen . He teaches astrophysics and theoretical physics.
