Jens Voigt (soccer player)

Jens Voigt (born June 29, 1959 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper. For Chemie Böhlen and Motor Suhl he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

Jens Voigt played his first men's games from 1977 for the second team of the company sports association (BSG) Chemie Leipzig in the third-class district league . After the first team was promoted to the East German league for the 1979/80 season, he completed eleven of 26 point games for the junior league team . The Leipzigers did not manage to stay in the league and were relegated back to the GDR league . Voigt was nominated as the third goalkeeper for the GDR league team, but could not prevail against Ralph Kahnt or Hubert Suchantke in 1980/81 and remained in the first team without a point game. In contrast, he was used in the second team, which came back to the district league after relegation.

For the 1981/82 season Voigt moved to the district division TSG Chemie Markkleeberg . He helped TSG to the district championship and promotion to the GDR league, but then moved again and joined the upper division Chemie Böhlen . This nominated Voigt 1982/83 for the junior league, but already in the second league game of the first team he got the chance to replace the injured goalkeeper Freimuth Bott . Voigt did this in the following five league games until Bott was able to play again. Then he played again in the junior league for the rest of the season. Then Chemie Bohlen was relegated from the league and had no use for Voigt, and so he returned to Markkleeberg. TSG classified him as the second goalkeeper for their GDR league team, but he couldn't get past number one Joachim Niklasch , who was in goal in all 22 point games.

For the 1984/85 season Voigt joined the league promoted Motor Suhl . There he was mostly in the district league for the second team (the junior league had been discontinued). When the league team ran into personnel difficulties in the first half of the season, Voigt was called up as a substitute defender in two point games. After that, although only 26 years old, he no longer appeared in higher-class football. There he had made a total of eight league appearances.
