The spines are conical in shape, colored yellow, can be straight or curved, and are up to 8 mm long. The leaves are 3.5 to 8 cm long and 2.5 to 6.5 cm wide. The shape of the leaf blade is ovate to broadly ovate, the leaf edge is wavy, the entire leaf surface is densely tomentose with grayish-green, star-shaped trichomes, on the leaf veins there are a few spines.

The partial inflorescences are often in pairs, with one partial inflorescence bearing bisexual flowers and the second forming a short cluster of (rarely only two) three to five male flowers . The inflorescence stalks are 10 to 20 mm long. Both the flower stalks and the calyxes of the flowers are tomentose with star-shaped trichomes and sparsely covered with spines. The calyx is 6 to 7 mm long and is often thickened when the fruit is ripe. The crown is purple-blue in color, the coronet has a diameter of 3 to 3.5 cm and consists of 9 to 11 mm long, triangular corolla lobes. The outside is densely tomentose with star-shaped trichomes, the inside is only sparsely hairy. The dust bag are 5 mm long and extended to 6, pen and ovary are fine hair.

The fruits are spherical, yellow berries with a diameter of 25 to 30 mm. The seeds are about 2.5 mm wide, almost kidney-shaped, pale brown and finely folded like a reticulum.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24, less often 48.
