Jermaine Gonzales (born November 26, 1984 in Saint Catherine Parish ) is a Jamaican sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run .

Career

At the age of 16 Gonzales won the bronze medal in the 400-meter run at the 2001 World Youth Athletics Championships in Debrecen. The same placement he achieved the following year at the World Junior Athletics Championships in Kingston in 2002 .

Gonzales gained his first international experience at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, where he was disqualified after the heat with the Jamaican 4 x 400 meter relay . At the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006 , he won the bronze medal with the relay and also finished third over 400 meters.

After it had become quiet for a few years, Gonzales improved the Jamaican record in the 400-meter run to 44.40 s at the Herculisin Monaco. At the 2011 World Athletics Championships in Daegu, he was fourth over this distance with 44.99 s. In the season he won the bronze medal behind the teams from the United States and South Africa together with Allodin Fothergill , Riker Hylton and Leford Green .
