Jesse Väänänen (born January 6, 1984 in Lahti ) is a Finnish cross-country skier .

Career

Väänänen competed in competitions of the Fédération Internationale de Ski from 2003 to 2012 . He took part in the Scandinavian Cup and the Cross-Country World Cup. At the Junior World Championships in 2003 in Sollefteå , Sweden , he was tenth over ten kilometers in the classic technique and 16th in the sprint. At the 2004 Junior World Championships in Stryn, Norway, finishing fourth with the Finnish relay barely won a medal. He was 20th in the sprint and 55th in the mass start race over 30 kilometers. He ran his first World Cup race in March 2004 in Lahti, which he finished with 52nd place in the sprint. At the Winter Universiade 2005 in Innsbruck and Seefeld in Tyrol he was 16th in the sprint and 64th over ten kilometers in free technique. He got his first World Cup points at the beginning of December 2007 in Kuusamo with tenth place in the sprint. In January 2010 he reached in Otepää with fourth place in the sprint, his best placement in a World Cup race. At the following Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010 , he finished 22nd in the sprint. From the 2010/11 season he mainly competed in FIS races and in the Scandinavian Cup . Only at the World Cups in his hometown of Lahti was sprinting again in 2011 (15th) and 2012 (63rd). After he did not start at the Finnish championships in Imatra in 2012 despite a report, he ended his career.
