Jessica Brown Findlay

Jessica Brown Findlay (* 14. September 1989 in Cookham , Berkshire as Jessica Rose Brown Findlay ) is a British actress .

Life and career

Brown Findlay grew up in Cookham , Berkshire , the daughter of a financial advisor and secretary .

As a teenager she initially aspired to a career in ballet and trained with the National Youth Ballet and with dancers from the Royal Ballet . At the age of 15, she received an invitation to appear with the Kirov Ballet for one season at the Royal Opera House . After completing school, she began training at the London Arts Educational School , where she had to give up dancing in the second year after several ankle operations.

Her teacher convinced her to continue her education at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design , where she first came into contact with acting. After the recommendation of some casting agents, she received her first leading role in the comedy Albatross at the side of Julia Ormond and Sebastian Koch . Her portrayal of Emelia Conan-Doyle earned her a nomination as Most Promising Newcomer for the British Independent Film Award and the Evening Standard British Film Award .

From 2010 to 2012, Brown Findlay appeared in the role of Sybil Crawley in the multi-award-winning drama series Downton Abbey . In 2014 she played the role of Beverly Penn in Winter's Tale , the film adaptation of Mark Helprin's fantasy novel, alongside Colin Farrell and Russell Crowe .
