The Jezioro Wojnowo ( German Hessen-See ) is a lake in the middle of the municipality Miłki ( German Milken ) in the powiat Giżycki ( German district Lötzen ) in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .
description
The lake has no runoff and is oligotrophic and mesotrophic . The shores of the lake are partially overgrown by wild vegetation. There are several bays on the west bank. The lake has shoreline areas with gentle hills that merge into steep slopes on the east side. There are several forest areas around the lake.
From the south is the Jezioro Wojnowo over the narrow watercourse Głaźna Struga with the Jezioro Buwełno ( German Martinshagener See ) and from the north over the lakes Niałk Mały ( German Großer Mialk-See ) and Niałk Duży ( German Kleiner Mialk-See ) with the Jezioro Niegocin ( German Löwentinsee ) connected.
From the east, the Staświnka flows into the lake, which together with the Stasswinner Canal drains the Stasswinner meadows, a remnant of the Stasswinner lake that was drained in 1834. To the south of it the Wobelbach flows into the lake, which connects the Jezioro Miłkowskie ( German Wobel Lake ) with the Jezioro Wojnowo. The village of Kleszczewo ( German Brassendorf ) is located on the west bank of the lake, in the north lies Ruda and in the east the village Staświny ( German Staßwinnen ).
water sports
A canoe route leads through the lake to Śniardwy ( German Spirdingsee ). Between the lakes Buwełno and Tyrkło ( German Türkle-See ) it is necessary to transport the boat about two kilometers. A long-planned navigable connection between these lakes is difficult because of the difference in altitude. The narrow width of the passage of the historic bridge over the Głaźna Struga between Wojnowo and Buwełno is also an obstacle.
The lake can be used by smaller sailing boats, but is not very popular with sailors. There is a small marina in Kleszczewo.
Fishing
The lake contains the following types of fish: bream , tench , roach , rudd , carp , pike , perch and eel .
accident
On August 27, 2004 at 7:10 p.m. there was an accident in the area of the isthmus between lakes Niegocin and Wojnowo. A yacht of the type Pegaz 737 with a mast height of about ten meters with four people on board passed under the Rydzewo – Giżycko road bridge with the mast down. Although the navigable route ends in Niegocin and the high-voltage line is marked in accordance with the regulations from the bridge side (sign) and from the lake (buoy), the yacht's crew probably set the mast too early after the passage. Therefore, the mast hooked into the high-voltage line hanging at a height of about ten meters, which leads over the water about 100 meters after the bridge. A 21-year-old from Warsaw died of an electric shock while another was hospitalized with severe burns.
