The powiat Giżycki is a powiat ( district ) in the eastern part of the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . In the Masurian Lake District, it encompasses the region around the Mauersee and is enclosed clockwise by the Powiats Węgorzewo (in the north), Gołdap , Olecko , Ełk ( Lyck ) , Pisz ( Johannisburg ) , Mrągowo ( Sensburg ) and Kętrzyn ( Rastenburg ) .
Its area is not identical to the former Lötzen district . When the powiat Węgorzewo was separated on January 1, 2002, the community Kruklanki , which formerly belonged to the Angerburg district , remained with the powiat Giżycko.

The powiat comprises six parishes , which are divided into urban, urban-and-rural and rural parishes :

- Giżycko : 8464 inhabitants
- Kruklanki (Kruglanken) : 3164 inhabitants
- Miłki (Milken) : 3742 inhabitants
- Wydminy (Widminnen) : 6270 inhabitants
