The powiat Bartoszycki is a powiat (district) in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It is located in the northern part of the province, where it is surrounded by the powiats Braniewo , Lidzbark , Olsztyn and Kętrzyn , while the state border with the Russian Kaliningrad Oblast runs in the north .
The establishment of the Polish-Russian border across the former East Prussia in 1945 divided the former districts of Bartenstein and Prussian Eylau . This was dissolved in 1960 and united with Bartoszyce to form a common powiat.
