The Gmina Ryn [ rɨn ] is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Giżycki of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the city ​​of the same name ( German  Rhine ) with about 2850 inhabitants.

The municipality is located in the east of the voivodeship in the former East Prussia . The district town of Giżycko (Lötzen) is about eight kilometers northeast. Neighboring municipalities are Kętrzyn in the northwest, Giżycko in the northeast, Miłki in the southeast, Mikołajki in the south and Mrągowo in the southwest.

The area of ​​the municipality belongs to the Masurian Lake District . There are a number of large and small lakes. The Jezioro Ryńskie (Rheiner See) forms with the Tałty (Talter waters) a 20 kilometer long lake with an area of ​​18.3 km². It is one of the largest and deepest lakes in the region.

The community has an area of ​​211.2 km², 58 percent of which is used for agriculture and 21 percent for forestry.

history

The rural community was re-established in 1973 after its territory was divided into Gromadas from 1954 to 1972 . Urban and rural parishes were united to form urban and rural parishes in 1990/1991. The municipality belonged to the Olsztyn Voivodeship from 1946 to 1975 and then to the Suwałki Voivodeship until 1998 . On January 1, 1999, the community came back to the powiat Giżycki and the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship, which was newly formed and corresponds to the Polish part of the former province of East Prussia .

Partnerships

Community partnerships have existed since 2001 with the Rajongemeinde Jurbarkas in Lithuania and since 2006 with Amt Neuhaus in Lower Saxony, Germany.

In the municipality there are three Roman Catholic parish churches with two branch chapels : Ryn with Monetki (Sophienthal) and Ławki (Lawken) , Szymonka (Schimonken) and the parish church in Sterławki Wielkie (Groß Stürlack) .

Members of the Evangelical Augsburg Church visit the parish chapel in the town of Ryn and its branch chapel in Sterławki Wielkie (Groß Stürlack) , which belong to the diocese of Masuria .

The national road DK59 (formerly Reichsstraße 140 ) leads from the district town Giżycko (Lötzen) via Ryn to Mrągowo (Sensburg) and Rozogi (Friedrichshof) . In Ryn the voivodeship road DW642 crosses , which is the north-south axis through the municipality. The DW592 runs from the district town through the north of the municipality to Kętrzyn (Rastenburg) and Bartoszyce (Bartenstein) . The DW643 voivodship road runs through the southeast of the municipality .

The nearest major international airport is Gdansk .

The train station on the Głomno – Białystok railway is Sterławki Wielkie. - From 1949 to 1971, Ryn was the terminus of the Rastenburg small railways that were in operation again

Ryn has a modern marina for houseboats and sailing boats .
