The Jhanji , in the upper reaches of the Milak , is a left tributary of the Brahmaputra in the Indian states of Nagaland and Assam .

The Milak rises north of the district capital Mokokchung in the Patkai Mountains . It flows north through the mountains and the Mokokchung district . The river passes the small town of Tuli . On the border with Assam , the Tsurong meets the river from the left. In Assam this bears the name Jhanji . The river meanders through the Assam lowlands in a north-westerly direction . It forms the border between the Sivasagar district in the east and the Jorhat district in the west. The last 25 km it flows through the Jorhat district in a west-northwest direction before it reaches the south bank of the Brahmaputra. Shortly before that, the Mitong joins the Jhanji on the right. The river length is about 120 km.

The Milak in Nagaland repeatedly leads to high water and floods the adjacent areas. There are several paper mills along the river.
