Jiří Hudec (* 1953 in Brno ) is a Czech double bass player and music teacher .

Jiří Hudec is the son of the conductor and composer Jiří Hudec (1923–1996). He studied at the Janáček Academy in Brno. After completing his studies in 1977, he played as a double bass player in the orchestra of the Czech Philharmonic in Prague , from 1990 as a solo bassist .

He was u. a. Finalist in the Markneukirchen double bass competition (1975) and winner of the Isle of Man International Double Bass Competition 1978.

In addition to his orchestral work, he has given concerts as a chamber musician and soloist with well-known orchestras and ensembles a. a. at the festival Prague Spring , in the Wigmore Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London , where he worked as a soloist together with the English Chamber Orchestra , the first performance of the concerto for double bass by Richard Rodney Bennett played.

Hudec has taught at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague since 1980 and was appointed professor there in 2007. Since 2001 he has also taught at the Royal Northern College of Music and also gives masterclasses e.g. B. at the Royal Academy of Music and in Japan . He has released numerous CD and radio recordings. One of his most important students is Božo Paradžik .
