Condemnation of the Central Propaganda Department

In the spring of 2004, Jiao wrote an essay entitled (Full) Condemnation of the Central Propaganda Department (the Chinese Communist Party ) . Jiao said, “At first, I just emailed this article to a few friends. However, a friend of my lawyers posted it on a website without informing me, and a few days later the vice president of Beijing University called me to his office. I didn't know the article had gotten so widely. Many foreign media such as B. The Asian Weekly of Hong Kong, Voice of America, The New York Times, even a newspaper in Helsinki , Finland , either published the whole article, a summary or reported on its publication. "

Jiao called for the abolition of the state's propaganda machine guilty of protecting corrupt officials and glossing over the darkest moments in the country's history. “The nature of their work is the complete opposite of that of a modern society. Where else can you find a Propaganda Ministry? Not in the US , not in the UK, and not in Europe either . You could find it in Nazi Germany, however, where Goebbels said that you only had to repeat a lie enough times for it to become the truth. "

Jiao was later subjected to intense surveillance, house arrest, and persecution and was blacklisted. In March 2005 he left China and lived abroad, particularly in Germany and Great Britain . In 2008 he returned to China. He was released two weeks after he was re-detained in 2012, but was then closely monitored and banned from traveling.
