Jidenna (born May 4, 1985 in Wisconsin Rapids ; full name Jidenna Theodore Mobisson ) is an American rapper and singer.

Career

Jidenna's father, Oliver Mobisson, was a Nigerian scientist and activist. He always appeared in bespoke suits and with a walking stick, and after he died in 2010, Jidenna took over the fashion consciousness and dressed in flashy suits, but more dandy in the style of the Harlem Renaissance era, which is his trademark along with his old-fashioned full beard. It was not until he graduated from the Stanford University before the new label is 2015 Wondaland of Janelle Monáe joined. His debut single Classic Man appeared very quickly together with the musician and producer Roman GianArthur. Three months after its release, the song made it into the top 10 of the R&B charts and rose to number 22 on the official singles chart . It was awarded double platinum . The Soul Train Music Awards Jidenna was as Best New Artist Award and the Grammy Awards in 2016 was Classic Man in the category Rap / song collaboration nominated for an award. The song was also used in the Oscar- winning film Moonlight , in which Monáe also starred.

The song was also recorded on the label sampler Wondaland Presents: The Eephus , which also reached number 22 in the album charts . Another contribution to this 6-song EP was Yoga , a joint piece with Janelle Monáe. This song also hit the Hot 100 singles chart and achieved gold status. Also in 2015 was the song Long Live the Chief , an allusion to the Nigerian past and the Chief Oliver Mobisson (chief meaning tribal leader). Jidenna could not build on the single success in 2016, but in February 2017 he released his debut album The Chief , which entered the US album charts at number 38.
