The Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park , formerly Black Mountain National Park is a national park in Bhutan . It is named after Jigme Singye Wangchuck . The national park extends over an area of ​​1730 square kilometers and borders the Royal Manas National Park to the south .

Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park is located in the districts of Wangdue Phodrang , Trongsa , Tsirang , Sarpang and Zhemgang .

The national park is mainly characterized by the landscape of the foothills of the Himalayas . The altitudes range from about 500 to 5000 m. The habitats in the park range from tropical and subtropical wet forests to alpine mountain meadows. The park plays an important ecological role as a link between the Royal Manas National Park in the south and the Jigme Dorji National Park to the north .

Flora and fauna

Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park is home to around 10 to 15 percent of Bhutan's tiger population. The most threatened species also include leopards and Asian wild dogs. It is also home to numerous animal species typical of the mountains, including seraus , musk deer , collar bears , cat bears and wild boars . Other distinctive species are sambar , Indian muntjac and golden langur . With a total of 391 bird species, it has more bird species than any other national park in the country. The threatened imperial heron is particularly noteworthy. Black-necked cranes use the park to overwinter. The protected area, in which a total of about 5000 to 6000 people live, is threatened by habitat destruction and poaching.
