Jim Dahl

James Russell "Jim" Dahl (born May 2, 1930 ) is an American jazz and studio musician ( trombone ).

Live and act

Dahl first played in the family band in his home state of Minnesota ; his father was a bass player, his mother played the organ, his brother the trumpet and his sister the piano. During his training, he first played the tuba , which later became his second instrument. After completing his military service, he began to work as a professional musician, initially with Clyde McCoy . The first recordings were made in 1956 when he was involved in a big band production by Erroll Garner . In the following years he worked mainly as a freelance big band and orchestral musician a. a. with Larry Sonn , Specs Powell , Sam Most , Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band , Johnny Richards , Boyd Raeburn , Claude Thornhill , Nat Pierce , Ernie Wilkins , Manny Albam , Gene Krupa , Woody Herman , Elliot Lawrence , Gene Quill , Jackie Gleason , Chubby Jackson , Tony Pastor , George Dale Williams and Tito Puente . In the field of pop he also worked on recordings by Johnny Ray and Neil Sedaka . In the field of jazz he was involved in 100 recording sessions between 1956 and 1969, most recently with Marlene VerPlanck's LP This Happy Feeling .
