Jim Hutton

Jim Hutton (born May 31, 1934 in Binghamton , New York , † June 2, 1979 in Los Angeles , actually Dana James Hutton ) was an American film and television actor.

Life

Hutton began his acting career at a young age, initially appearing primarily in plays. For example, he performed at the Summer stock theater at the Ivoryton Playhouse in Ivoryton , Connecticut for twelve US dollars a week .

During his army time, when he was stationed in Nuremberg , among other places , he appeared as an actor at a German theater and was discovered by the film director Douglas Sirk . At the time, he not only appeared as an actor in the amateur plays, but was also a director. Sirk subsequently hired him for the film Time to Live and Time to Die , in which Hutton played the role of Hirschland .

He caused a stir in Hollywood with a role in the student film These Include Two and in 1966 in Not So Fast My Boy with Cary Grant . In 1965 he played in the western comedy Forty Cars Westward . Hutton also took on serious roles, such as in 1965 in the film Sierra Charriba by director Sam Peckinpah and in 1968 in the film The Green Devils by John Wayne , in which he also appeared as an actor. That same year he played alongside Wayne in the film The Intrepid .

In the 1970s he started working mainly for television. So he played the title role Ellery Queen in the television film of the same name, which was later continued as a series until 1976. Hutton's partner was actor David Wayne , who played his film father.

Jim Hutton died of liver cancer at 1:45 p.m. on June 2, 1979 in a Los Angeles hospital. He was divorced, had three sons, and was buried in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles. His son, the actor Timothy Hutton , dedicated him the Oscar in 1981 , which he received for best supporting actor.
