Jim Wilson (film producer)
Jim Wilson (* 20th century ) is an American film producer , film director and screenwriter . He became internationally known for the production of the movies Dances with Wolves , Wyatt Earp - The Life of a Legend , Message in a Bottle - The Beginning of a Great Love and Mr. Brooks - The Murderer in You .
life and career
Jim Wilson has worked in the film business in a variety of roles since the early 1980s. He attended Antioch College and was a graduate of the Berkeley Film Institute . Wilson began his film career in 1983 as a director and film producer for the drama Daring Game . Kevin Costner played the leading role . There began the long-term collaboration with his friend Costner and the writer and screenwriter Michael Blake , whom he had met in Berkeley. Since then, Wilson has launched eleven joint film projects with Kevin Costner, including the multi-award-winning Oscar- winning western drama Dances with Wolves , where Jim Wilson himself received an Oscar in the Best Picture category, the cinema production Bodyguard , and the television miniseries 500 Nations - The story of the Indians , the psychological thriller Mr. Brooks - The killer in you or the socially critical political fable Swing Vote . Most of these films were made by the production company TIG Productions founded by Costner and Wilson .
In addition to his collaboration with Costner, Jim Wilson has also produced films such as Rapa Nui - Rebellion in Paradise with Jason Scott Lee , Esai Morales , Sandrine Holt , directed by Kevin Reynolds , with whom Wilson also worked several times, or the satire Kopf über Wasser with Cameron Diaz , where Wilson himself took over the direction. His latest project, the film drama 50 to 1 , premiered in March 2014 with the cast Skeet Ulrich , Christian Kane and William Devane .
Jim Wilson produced over 15 films in his career, sat in the director's chair himself six times and also wrote two scripts for his films himself.
