Tamon Jirō

Tamon Jirō ( Japanese 多 門 二郎 ; born September 28, 1878 in Shizuoka Prefecture , Japanese Empire ; † November 24, 1934 ) was a lieutenant general in the Imperial Japanese Army .

Life

Born in Shizuoka Prefecture, Tamon graduated from the 11th grade of the Army Officer School as a lieutenant in 1898 and later took part in the Russo-Japanese War . After the war he attended the Army University , graduating from the 21st year in 1909. Subsequently he was Chief of Staff of the 6th Division . After taking command of the 62nd Infantry Regiment for some time, he undertook a six-month journey through Europe before taking command of the 27th Infantry Regiment in 1920, which was in Russia during the Siberian Intervention . During the intervention, he later commanded the so-called Task Force Tamon , which after the Nikolaevsk incident represented the relief force for Nikolayevsk on the Amur . Subsequently, he was assigned to the staff of the Sakhalin Expeditionary Corps until 1921 .

From 1921 to 1922 Tamon was in command of the 2nd Regiment before becoming Chief of Staff of the 4th Division until 1924 . He then briefly became commander of the 6th Infantry Brigade ( 9th Division ) before, after a short time at the Army University, from May 1925 to July 1927 he became head of the 4th Bureau for Military History of the Army Chief of Staff . This use was followed by a renewed service at the Army University. After he was director until August 1929, he then took over the post of commander of the army college until December 1930.

In 1930 Tamon, who had meanwhile been promoted to Lieutenant General, was transferred to Manchuria , where he became Commanding General of the 2nd Division . With this he took part in most of the major skirmishes and battles during the Japanese occupation of Manchuria .

In August 1933, Tamon was removed from his post and transferred to the reserve, but left and retired that same year. He died the following year.
