João Francisco Braga

João Francisco Braga (born August 24, 1868 in Pelotas , Brazil , † October 13, 1937 ) was Archbishop of Curitiba .

Life

João Francisco Braga was ordained a deacon on December 23, 1899 . On April 17, 1900, he received the sacrament of ordination .

On April 9, 1902, Pope Leo XIII appointed him . to the Bishop of Petrópolis . The bishop of São Pedro do Rio Grande do Sul , Cláudio José Gonçalves Ponce de Leão CM , ordained him episcopal on August 24 of the same year . The inauguration took place on October 26, 1902.

Pope Pius X appointed him Bishop of Curitiba on October 27, 1907. The inauguration took place on February 17, 1908. On May 10, 1926 João Francisco Braga was the first Archbishop of Curitiba as a result of the elevation of the diocese of Curitiba to the archbishopric. Pope Pius XI accepted on June 22, 1935 the resignation put forward by Braga and appointed him titular Archbishop of Soteropolis .
