João Guedes

João Carlos Guedes de Carvalho (born July 3, 1921 in Matosinhos , † February 19, 1983 ) was a Portuguese actor and director .

Life

Guedes began his acting career under the direction of António Pedro at the Teatro Experimental do Porto in Porto . Among other things, he was seen in a 1964 production of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman . He also worked with other theater companies and amateur theater groups.

In the cinema he took on around 15 feature film roles, including in Retalhos da Vida de Um Médico (1962), in Fado Corrido (1964) by Jorge Brum do Canto , in Mudar de Vida (1966) by Paulo Rocha , in Uma Abelha na Chuva (1972 ) by Fernando Lopes , in Francisca (1981) by Manoel de Oliveira and Silvestre (1982) by João César Monteiro . His last role was that of Egas Moniz in O Bobo (1987) by José Álvaro Morais . He staged a number of plays for Portuguese television, RTP , such as The House on the Border (1969) by Sławomir Mrożek .

He was the father of actress Paula Guedes .
