João Hermes Pereira de Araújo

João Hermes Pereira de Araújo (born March 30, 1926 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a former Brazilian diplomat .

Life

João Hermes Pereira de Araújo is the son of Glória da Fonseca Hermes Pereira de Araújo and Walter Pereira de Araújo. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Faculdade de Direito of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo .

He attended the Instituto Rio Branco and became third class consul in 1951, second class delegation secretary in 1956 and first class in 1965, counselor in 1967, second class envoy in 1971 and first class envoy in 1976. From 1954 to 1960 he was Secretary of the Embassy to the Holy See . From 1964 to 1967 he was Secretary of the Embassy in Buenos Aires . From 1975 to 1981 he headed the North and South America department of Itamaraty.

From 1981 to 1983 he was ambassador to Bogotá . From 1984 to 1987 he was ambassador to Buenos Aires. From 1988 to 1991 he was ambassador to Paris . From 1991 to 2005 he directed the Museu Histórico e Diplomático do Itamaraty .
