Jože Mencinger (born March 5, 1941 in Jesenice , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian economist and politician .

Life

From May 1990 to May 1991 Mencinger was Minister for Economic Affairs of Slovenia. At that time he was a member of the Social Democratic Federation of Slovenia . In 1992 he became a member of the Democratic Party of Slovenia . From 2001 to 2004 he was rector of the University of Ljubljana . He was a member of the State Council for five years . In the 2014 European elections , he was the top candidate of the Pozitivna Slovenija party , which however failed to make it into the European Parliament.

He is a full professor at the Chair of Law and Economics at the Law Faculty of the University of Ljubljana.
