Jožef Pogačnik
Jožef Ritter von Pogačnik (born October 19, 1866 in Podnart , today the Radovljica municipality , Carniola ; † August 18, 1932 ibid) was a Slovenian farmer and politician . From 1897 to 1918 he was a member of the Austrian House of Representatives , from 1901 to 1918 a member of the Krainer Landtag and from 1918 to 1919 President of the National Government for Slovenia.
education and profession
Pogačnik attended high school in Ljubljana and Pazin between 1876 and 1884 and then studied law at the University of Graz from 1885 to 1887 , but without completing his studies. In 1887 he took over his father's farm in 1869 and, like his father, also became a postmaster in Podnart. He was also a reserve officer and served as a colonel during World War I and commanded the Carniolan riflemen in Ljubljana. After 1920 he was on the board of several Slovenian companies. In 1922 he was President of Trifailer Kohlenbergwerks AG and in 1926 President of Brewery AG Union Ljubljana.
Politics and functions
Pogačnik was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1897, where he was initially able to win a mandate in the constituency of the Krainer rural communities No. 3 (Krainburg etc.). He was a member of the House of Representatives from March 27, 1897 to November 12, 1918, and in 1907 he switched to a mandate in the electoral district of Krain 3 (Radmannsdorf). From 1908 he was vice-president in the House of Representatives several times and belonged to various Slovenian and Slavic clubs. In 1909 he joined the All-Slovenian People's Party . In addition to his work in the House of Representatives, Pogačnik was also active as a local councilor.
Pogačnik was in August 1918 Vice President of the Narodni svet (Slovenian National Council) and from October 31, 1918 to May 1919, President of the Narodna vlada za slovenijo (National Government for Slovenia).
Private
Pogačnik was born the son of farmer and postmaster Joze Pogačnik. He married Gabrijela Jeglič in 1888 and had three sons.
