Jo Beyer

Jo Beyer (born November 17, 1991 in Essen ) is a German jazz musician ( drums , composition).

Beyer studied at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and the Royal Music Academy in Aarhus and has lived in Cologne since 2016. With the trio Malstrom , which includes Florian Walter (saxophone) and Axel Zajac (guitar), he won various jazz prizes, such as the European Burghauser Young Talent Award in 2015 , the Getxo Jazz Competition in 2017 and the Biberach Jazz Award in 2018 . and also won the Sparda Jazz Award with the bands Bodosapiens and Der weise Panda . At the beginning of 2017 he completed his bachelor's concert with his own compositions, which he presented with his quartet JO (with Sven Decker , tenor saxophone, Roman Babik , piano and Andreas Wahl , guitars) in the Cologne loft . With this band he released your debut album as band leader on Unit Records in May 2017 . The second album Party (Berthold Records) followed in September 2019 .

With his own projects as well as as a sideman in various bands, Beyer regularly plays tours and concerts and is involved in CD, radio and television productions. He has already been musically active at international festivals in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Norway, Belgium, France, Denmark, Russia, China, Malaysia and the Czech Republic.
